After 11 seasons, Mark Gottfried has decided to step down as head coach at Alabama, effective immediately and turn the program over to former Alabama player Phil Pearson, who served on Gottfried’s staff at Murray State.
During his tenure in Tuscaloosa, Gottfried led the Tide to its best-ever showing in the NCAA Tournament when it made the Elite Eight in 2004 and went to four other NCAA Tournament appearances in 2002, 03, 05, and 06 but missed out in the last two years.
